Domestic violence is EVERYONE'S problem. It may be happening to your neighbor or women in your social group. What keeps women from leaving a bad relationship? The reasons include fear for her life and for her family’s safety, economics, denial, shame, and nowhere to go. The following organizations offer education, advocacy, justice, protection, and empowerment for these women.


American Bar Association (ABA)/ The Commission on Domestic & Sexual Violence

The Commission partners with the U.S. Department of Justice and agencies from across the United States to provide exceptional practical knowledge and training in representing victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.

Battered Women’s Justice Project (BWJP)

BWJP provides training and technical assistance that translates research findings into ideas for implementation, showcases the pioneering work of local jurisdictions, and facilitates the adoption of promising practices across the country.

Casa de Esperanza

The organization is a member of a nationwide network that supports prevention and intervention to domestic and dating violence. They provide safety, support, community involvement, training and policy advocacy.

Child Welfare Information Gateway/ State Statues Search

This government agency provides access to publications, websites, databases and online tools to protect and improve the welfare of children.

Childhelp

ChildHelp works to end child abuse through prevention, intervention and community outreach. Programs include Speak Up Be Safe programs for educators; intervention programs that include hotlines and downloads; and community outreach centers.

Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) Toolkit

This toolkit is for researchers across disciplines and social locations who are working in academic, policy, community, or practice-based settings. In particular, the toolkit provides support to emerging researchers as they consider whether and how to take a CBPR approach and what it might mean in the context of their professional roles and settings.

Cure Violence

Cure Violence stops the spread of violence by using the methods and strategies associated with disease control — detecting and interrupting conflicts, identifying and treating the highest risk individuals, and changing social norms.

Domestic Violence and Firearms is a program of The Education Fund To Stop Gun Violence. The organization uses a public health and equity lens to identify and implement evidence-based policy solutions and programs to reduce gun violence in all forms.

Domestic Violence Legal Empowerment And Appeals Project

DV LEAP makes the law work for survivors of domestic violence by challenging unjust trial outcomes; advancing legal protections through expert pro bono advocacy; training lawyers, advocates, and judges in best practices; and spear heading domestic violence litigation in the supreme court.

Domestic Shelters/State Coalitions

This organization offers the online and mobile searchable directory of domestic violence programs and shelters in the U.S. and Canada that is free to the public. In addition, there is a wish list platform for domestic violence agencies and programs.

End FMG/ C U.S. Network

End FMG/C is a collaborative group of survivors, organizations, activists, and policymakers committed to promoting the abandonment of female mutilation or cutting in the U.S. and around the world.

The Family Justice Center

The Center provides technical assistance, consulting services, and resources to communities around the world. We are a clearinghouse, research center and national affiliation serving survivors of interpersonal violence.

THE FAMILY VIOLENCE PREVENTION AND SERVICES ACT (FVPSA)

FVPSA is the federal response to domestic violence. It funds programs to establish, maintain and expand local, community-based violence prevention and intervention programs.

Finding Our Voices helps girls and women recognize, avoid, safely leave and heal from dangerous relationships; educate the general community about the complexity, insidiousness, and pervasiveness of domestic abuse, and to galvanize action toward accountability and justice.

Futures Without Violence

Futures provides programs, policies, and campaigns that empower individuals and organizations working to end violence women and children around the world.

Gendercide Awareness Project

Gendap is a nonprofit focused on ending gendercide by raising awareness and taking effective action including art exhibits, lectures and education. They work with a broad array of community organizations including the World Affairs Council of Dallas - Ft Worth.

Girls Not Brides

Girls Not Brides is a global partnership of more than 1000 civil society organizations committed to ending child marriage and enabling girls to fulfill their potential.

The Initiative

The Initiative focuses services on the intersection of cross-disability issues and abuse. “Cross-disability” means that they serve people with all kinds of disabilities, including physical, sensory, cognitive, developmental, mental-health, and health-related. Through their advocacy and outreach programs, the organization strives to create an abuse-free culture for all.

Legal Resource Center on Violence Against Women

The International Resource on Violence Against Women works to obtain legal representation for domestic violence survivors, technical assistance to domestic violence advocates, a network of qualified attorneys, and training.

LifeWire

LifeWire is on a mission to end domestic violence and create a world where every person lives in a safe environment, free from oppression and with the opportunity to thrive. The organization advocates for domestic violence survivors, prevent family homelessness and mobilize for social change.

Me Too.

The Me Too movement initiated a vital conversation about sexual violence. Their goal is to support survivors of sexual violence and their allies by connecting them to resources. They offer a healing library, tool kits and advocacy resources at the local and national levels.

National Children’s Alliance

National Children’s Alliance set standards with their accreditation program for members, works with children’s advocacy centers, and multidisciplinary teams that work to improve services for abused children.

The National Clearinghouse for the Defense of Battered Women (NCDBW)

The National Clearinghouse for the Defense of Battered Women (NCDBW) works for justice for victims of battering charged with crimes where a history of abuse is relevant to their legal claim or defense.

The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV)

The mission of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) is to lead, mobilize and raise our voices to support efforts that demand a change of conditions that lead to domestic violence such as patriarchy, privilege, racism, sexism, and classism. They are dedicated to supporting survivors and holding offenders accountable and supporting advocates.

National Crime Victim Law Institute

NCVLI works to ensure that victims of crime are informed of their rights and can find resources to enforce their rights. The organization provides general information and referral information to other agencies that may provide direct assistance

The National Domestic Violence Hotline

The Hotline provides tools and support to help survivors of domestic violence. Contacts to the The Hotline can expect highly-trained, expert advocates to offer free, confidential, and compassionate support, crisis intervention, education and referral services in over 200 languages.

National Gender-Based Violence Learning Community

NGBVLC is a partnership of training and technical assistance organizations including BWJP, APIGBV, Esperanza, and National Domestic Violence Hotline. NGBVLC strives to create relevant, expert, and meaningful learning opportunities. As a part of the community you be able to access all types of content on your schedule, engage with peers and experts, and earn continuing ed credits.

National Immigrant Women’s Advocacy Project

NIWAP is a national expert on the legal rights and services available to immigrant victims of domestic violence, sexually assault, child and elder abuse, stalking, human trafficking and other violence.

Pathways to Safety International

Pathways to Safety International empowers victims of interpersonal and gender based violence abroad. Safer Families Safer Communities

Safer Families Safer Communities hosts a national forum on firearms and domestic violence, developed a library of information and tools on firearms and domestic violence, promotes a community-based peer mentor system, and more.

Safe Housing Partnerships

Safe Housing is the federal domestic violence and technical assistance consortium that provides training, technical assistance, and resource development at the intersection of domestic violence, homelessness, and housing.

SPARC is a federally funded project providing education and resources about the crime of stalking.

Tahirih Justice Center

Through direct services, policy advocacy, and training and education, Tahirih protects immigrant women and girls and promotes a world where women and girls enjoy equality, and live in safety and dignity.

The Forced Marriage Initiative is a project of the Tahirih Justice Center. The Tahirih Justice Center is a national, non-profit organization that protects courageous immigrant women and girls who refuse to be victims of violence. The mission of the Forced Marriage Initiative is to end forced marriage in the United States.

Unchained at Last

Unchained At Last is the only organization in the U.S. dedicated to helping women and girls leave or avoid arranged/forced marriages and rebuild their lives. Unchained provides women and girls with free legal and social services and emotional support.
